The NEW Fernco Dual Puddle Flange is engineered to provide robust protection against water leakage and radon gas infiltration in pipe penetrations within poured concrete structures. Building on the proven performance of its predecessor, this updated model offers an installer-friendly design with enhanced sealing capabilities against both infiltration and exfiltration. During the casting process, the band compresses the rubber body against the pipe, creating a watertight, airtight barrier that effectively blocks water, gases, and hydrocarbons as the concrete cures and shrinks.
Designed for versatility and ease of use, the Fernco Dual Puddle Flange is compatible with a range of pipe materials and sizes, from 5/8” OD to custom requirements. It is suitable for both horizontal and vertical installations, making it ideal for concrete walls, tanks, manhole chambers, shafts, pools, floor slabs, and basements. Made from durable EPDM rubber and secured with stainless steel bands, it offers a cost-effective solution with a temperature rating of -60°F to 180°F constant. Protection Against Water Leakage
When pipes are cast into a concrete structure, a potential fluid leak path forms as the concrete dries and shrinks away from the pipe surface. Fernco Puddle Flanges serve as a barrier to prevent this fluid movement. A watertight seal is achieved by clamping the rubber body of the flange to the pipe with a steel band, while the wet concrete coats the flange’s large surface area. As the concrete cures and shrinks, the flange material compresses and then relaxes, expanding to fill any gaps and maintain a secure, pressure-tight seal.
Protection Against Radon Gases
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Radon (chemical symbol Rn) is an odorless, colorless, radioactive gas. It comes from the natural decay of uranium and radium found in nearly all rocks and soils. Radon can move up from the ground into buildings through openings in floors or walls that are in contact with the ground. Radon can accumulate in buildings and, over time, can pose a serious health hazard.
Selecting the Right Fernco Dual Puddle Flange
- Determine Your Pipe's Size Range: Fernco Dual Puddle Flanges are designed to fit a range of pipe sizes (e.g., 2.75" - 3.35").
- Measure the Outside Diameter (OD): Measure the outside diameter of the pipe where the flange will be installed.
- Choose the Correct Flange Size: Select the Dual Puddle Flange that matches your pipe's outside diameter within its fitting range.
Notes
- Fitted Puddle Flanges have an outside diameter 2” larger than the pipe onto which they are installed (dependent on size). Concrete cover should be 2" against every surface around the Puddle Flange. Waterproof concrete should be used
- Puddle Flanges are, in some cases, supplied with the inside diameter of the seal smaller than the pipe outside diameter and may have to be stretched over the pipe during installation. In some cases, it is advised that the clamp band can be removed to aid stretching over the pipe.
- Puddle Flanges do not provide axial restraint so they should not be used when axial loading on the pipe is present. The pipe must be fully supported to withstand the concrete pouring process.
